The winegrowing area in the French-speaking part of Switzerland comprises 1,260 hectares, which amounts to 10% of the national production. The Lake Geneva region is thus the third-largest winegrowing canton. Although Chasselas still dominates among the white wines, Geneva’s vintners also been very successful with classical varieties.
Geneva
The first wine was grown in Geneva over 2,000 years ago. Since that time viticulture has flourished uninterruptedly in Switzerland’s southwestern corner. Winegrowing has first been documented in the year 912 A.D.
