Description
It runs right through the middle of the Jura Vaudois Nature Reserve, which with its 523 kilometres of marked trails is especially popular with casual hikers. The ascent from Col du Mollendruz to Mont Tendre is amply rewarded just before the summit, where the Chalet du Mont Tendre awaits you with hearty but diverse home cooked meals in portions fit for hikers. And from the huge terrace you can enjoy fantastic views across Lake Geneva to the Alps.
This picture perfect panorama is only bested by the vista from the peak of Mont Tendre. From here the panoramic view reaches from the Savoy to the Bernese Alps and from the Vosges to La Dole.
The descent then takes you gently through a park-like landscape to Col du Marchairuz. Dry stone walls are especially typical of the high plateaus of the Jura. These were built as property boundaries and to enclose pastures, but they also provide an ideal habitat for lizards and insects. The enormous colony of wood ants on Col du Marchairuz is unique in Europe.
