Intro

The Doubs is the green border between Switzerland and France: on the one hand it actually forms the frontier and on the other, it is a magical green river landscape, more natural than any other in Switzerland. Canoe and kayak trips between Goumois and St-Ursanne are romantic and relaxing.

Because of the sparse population and rough terrain, the course of the river has remained in its natural state, an extremely rare attribute these days. The Doubs meanders freely and mostly peacefully along the narrow valley floor, becoming faster and wilder in a few places. The damp climate allows lush green vegetation to thrive; even the stones are completely covered with moss.

In these surroundings, a river trip without a motor is a thoroughly relaxing experience. The route above St-Ursanne is ideal for beginners. Boats can be rented at the Maison du Tourisme in St-Ursanne, while professional guides offer accompanied tours of varying lengths on different stretches of the river, either in canoes with 2 or 3 seats or single-seater kayaks.
