The lake above Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland nestles at nearly 1,600 meters above sea level in a valley basin. Because it is surrounded on three sides by high mountains, it is one of the coldest sites and a popular destination on the winter map of Switzerland.
From January 1st until the end of March, ice fishing is very popular. The lake is usually easily accessible. In the winter, many fishermen visit the lake with a sled in order to enjoy a fast descent into the valley in the evening.
