During the 19th Century, Winterthur transformed itself into an important center of industrial manufacturing: enormous factories sprang up all over the place. They helped the city blossom and grow and gave it a new appearance. Grüze, an important part of the town of Winterthur, houses such a factory building. This edifice is the last Swiss nail factory still in operation.

For several years now, the nail factory has a museum and exhibition that offer insight into the fascinating world of the machine-based manufacturing procedures of the past. Some of the original machines were faithfully restored over a period of four years. In the atmospheric ambience of the old production facilities, visitors observe and hear the rattling and hissing of the nail making machines. This is accompanied by the smell of steel, which has been in the air here for nearly 120 years. If guests are interested in a hands-on activity, they can hammer a few nails in the activity room.
