Intro

Central Switzerland is as beautiful as it is diverse. With the Tell-Pass it is also easy to explore.

Less is more? That most certainly is not true for Central Switzerland. The region is bursting with famous and popular sights. An excursion to Rigi, a ride on the World’s steepest cog railway up to Pilatus, snow tubing fun at Titlis glacier park or a relaxing tour on a nostalgic steamboat on Lake Lucerne – these are only a view of the countless possibilities to enjoy the region.

Tip 1: Titlis

The excursion up Titlis is a real treat. The gondola TITLIS Xpress leads up to the intermediate station. Then TITLIS Rotair, the World’s first revolving aerial cableway, continues all the way to the top.

Tip 2: Pilatus

Maker of weather, dragon's lair, home to giants and grave of rulers: Lucerne's very own mountain, Pilatus, is one of the most legendary places in Central Switzerland. And one of the most beautiful. On a clear day the mountain offers a panoramic view of 73 Alpine peaks.

Tip 3: Melchsee-Frutt

The small holiday region of Melchsee-Frutt / Melchtal / Kerns lies at the heart of central Switzerland, surrounded by lakes and mountains. The centre for tourism in this expansive region is the high valley of Melchsee-Frutt at an altitude of 2000 metres, with its traffic-free, family-friendly resort on shores of the little mountain lake.

Tip 4: Rigi

Well over a hundred years ago, countless incorrigible adventurers and romantics, including one Mark Twain, journeyed to Central Switzerland specially to see the legendary sunrise on Mt. Rigi.

Tip 5: Zentralbahn

The Zentralbahn connects Lucerne and Engelberg, passing through Stans and also runs between Lucerne and Interlaken East (see GoldenPass Line) passing by Sarnen and the Brünig Pass.

Tip 6: Lake Lucerne

Encircled by popular excursion mountains, Lake Lucerne is the lake with the greatest scenic variety in the country. It is somewhat reminiscent of a fjord landscape, yet remains characterised by a mild lake climate. Boat cruises on board five historic paddle wheel steamers and 15 elegant salon motor vessels count among the highlights of this region.
