For lovers of Historic Hotels
At the end of 1880, the old post office in this village on the Italian border was expanded and became a simple boarding house. The naturally restored furniture dates back to this time when the inn still had six rooms. Later extensions were made without altering the original style. The original fireplace in the lounge is particularly cosy and homely.

Special distinction 2005
A special distinction was given to the Albergo della Posta in Astano in 2005 for "respecting the history of the house and the loving care of a Ticino hotel tradition". This former postal building of Astano in the Malcantone valley was turned into an inn in the second half of the 19th century before becoming a boarding house in 1906. In the first half of the 20th century, the famous Ticino photographer Eugenio Schmidhaus-Zanetti (1872-1952) bought the hotel. In 1964, the dining room was added and the landscaped gardens with their terraces, pergola, and swimming pool were redesigned. In 1984 the owners also purchased the adjacent estate, on which the Ticino architect Dolf Schnebli constructed an annex. The furniture originates mainly from the antique interiors of the house. There is also a fascinating fireplace from the early 19th century. The history of the building takes centre stage in the philosophy of this hotel. The Mediterranean gardens with their shrubs and palm-trees form the visual highlight of the complex.
