To gaze at Switzerland's highest mountain, the 4634 meter high Dufourspitze (Dufour Peak) while one is surrounded by the Alps' third longest glacier, Gorner Glacier and by nearly all the Swiss four-thousand-meter peaks: Gornergrat offers all this.
The popular mountain with stunning panoramic views can be accessed via the highest open-air rack railroad in Europe. The Gornergrat railway takes visitors across impressive bridges, through galleries and tunnels, idyllic forests, past ravines and mountain lakes to the peak, which is the starting point for numerous hikes and bike tours. In the winter visitors are lured to the region by the toboggan run from Rotenboden to Riffelberg, by ski runs and moguls, a ski park for children and winter hiking trails.
