Chamonna Tuoi
Overview
Intro
The Tuoi Hut lies in the Lower Engadin, at the far end of Val Tuoi, 2,250m above sea level. Here, the slopes of the valley basin rise steeply and turn into the striking peak of Piz Buin. At 3,312m above sea level, it towers over almost all the peaks in the Silvretta mountains and is a majestic sight offering some amazing views.
Chamonna Tuoi is one of just a few mountain huts to be open nearly all year around, closing for just a few weeks of the year. In summer, high-altitude trails of easy to moderate difficulty await, while the Silvretta mountains are a true mecca for ski tourers in winter. The hut is also a destination worth visiting for day trippers. From the picturesque village of Guarda, it can be reached in just two and a half hours – on foot in summer, and on touring skis or snowshoes in winter.
The Tuoi Hut was built more than a century ago and mainly used as a shelter by hunters. Various renovations, most recently in 2008, make this accommodation truly splendid today. Electricity is generated by solar panels on the front of the hut and a spring emerging from the rocks at 2,550m above sea level, which also supplies the water for up to 74 guests. Various arrangements are on offer: from a basic overnight stay to several days as a half-board package with an activity programme.
