Straight lines are simply not an option on the excursion routes of the BLS. A popular attraction is the Entlebuch between Lucerne and Bern, since 2001 a UNESCO biosphere reserve with its untouched moorlands, bubbling brooks and unique flora and fauna. No way is too winding when there’s the inviting Emmental Valley to travel through, with its characteristic wide-roofed farmhouses, picturesque pastures and peacefully grazing cattle.
Your journey continues from Canton Bern into Canton Valais avoiding the new time-saving Lötschberg Base Tunnel to take instead the classic century-old mountain route to Brig. Numerous hiking and excursion opportunities present themselves along the way, the most spectacular sights including the impressive 265-metre long Kander viaduct.

Lucerne and regionTradition and high-tech team up on the Stanserhorn. The ascent is by 120-year-old vintage funicular and then the futuristic open-top CabriO cable car – a perfect example of interplay between the classic and the contemporary.
Bern and regionDid you know that Bern is pure paradise for shoppers? The city’s historic arcades extend more than six kilometres, making the centre of the Swiss capital one of the world’s longest covered shopping malls. A sightseeing “must” – the historic Zytglogge tower with its astronomical clock.
Brig and regionThe Allalin near Saas-Fee is one of the country’s most-climbed 4000-metre peaks. But you don’t need to be a mountain climber to scale the summit – the Metro Alpin underground funicular whisks you straight to the top.
