Thanks to its lush mountain meadows and its long Alpine tradition (dating back to the Late Middle Ages), the Alp, which is located at an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level, belongs to the category of cultural landscapes of national importance. And thanks to the fact that it has an abundance of water, it is a river meadow of national importance as well. This Alp is a popular hiking area in the summer. Even a baby carriage and wheelchair accessible circular hiking trail was established in 2002 and has been in use since then. In the winter, ski runs and cross-country skiing trails are at the disposal of visitors; and alpinists climb the 3,243 meter high peak of the Wildstrubel in the spring and the summer.
The Engstligenalp is accessible via aerial cable car or mule track. Farmers also use the mule track to herd their cattle in the summer to the Alp. Furthermore, the mule track has the best view of Engstligen Falls, one of the falls with the largest amount of water flow in the Alps.
