The Chur–Bellinzona Route leads, from Chur, through Domleschg, the Viamala Gorge, the San-Bernardino tunnel and Misox to Bellinzona. You first discover the historic town of Chur, Switzerland’s oldest town – followed by Reichenau, where the broad Domleschg valley presents views of Europe’s largest cluster of castles. Additional sights are the rampageous waters of the Viamala Gorge on the way to Thusis – and the St. Martin church in Zillis (PostBus stop Zillis, Posta). Relax by a replenishing mineral bath in the Andeer resort, make a quick visit to Juf, Switzerland’s highest village, or take a walk along the Avers marmot learning path. (PostBus stop Andeer, Tgavugl). Now the route winds its way through the wild and beautiful Rofflachlucht ravine up to Rheinwald – and the Crestawald fortress museum (PostBus stop Sufers). Splügen’s intact village centre is yet another tourist magnet – and the snow-sure skiing region naturally excites winter sports fans. (PostBus stop Splügen, Post). From here the way leads through the amazing San-Bernardino Tunnel – and those keen to do the trip over the top should postpone a trip until between mid-June and mid-October - after which, you find yourself at the heart of the beautiful skiing region and source of pure and healthy mineral water. (PostBus stop San Bernardino, Posta) And let’s not forget cultural treasures such as the San Martino church or the Burgkastell in Mesocco (PostBus stop Mesocco, Stazione). Following Grono, starting point for hikes in the wild and romantic Val Calanca (PostBus stop Grono, Bivio Calanca); you then reach the valley bottom. And Bellinzona naturally greets you with its characteristic hospitality and warmth… and views of the famous three castles that also share a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
