Métro – A Genuine Subway Up and Down the Mountain

Lausanne

Lausanne boasts the world’s smallest automatic Metro. The new 6-kilometer line connects the pier of Ouchy via the Lausanne Train Station and the Old Town with the Croisette district. Approximately one half of the route is underground.

The Lausanne-Ouchy cogwheel train formerly linked the Flon Station not far from the center of the city, which lies at a higher elevation, with the Swiss Federal Railroad (SBB) train station and the Ouchy district on the shore of Lake Geneva. A new train was built, based on the complete reconstruction of the already existing 1,5-kilometer cogwheel train Lausanne-Ouchy and its extension to Epalinges.
