This last pre-war cable car with a federal Swiss license started operation on December 23, 1939. The Champéry-Planachaux cable car is found in the westernmost corner of the Valais, not far from the Simplon Line and the road tunnel of the Great St. Bernard and Lake Geneva. Today’s cable car climbs 700 meters across pre-Alpine conifer forests.
From the mountain station numerous hiking and biking trails lead through ancient Valaisian mountain forests and Alpine meadows.
A special feature of today’s mountain train facility: The railroad line from Aigle to the Val d'Illiez was extended up to the cable car station, so that one can board the large cabin immediately after disembarking from the train.
