This cute, car-free village epitomizes the image of Switzerland and is situated at the foot of the Matterhorn, the world’s most photographed mountain.
The last date activities reflected the amazing array of thrilling and romantic experiences Zermatt has to offer: heart-stopping helicopter rides around the Matterhorn, scenic hikes, horse-drawn sleigh rides through the picturesque car-free town. Lindzi learned how to ski down the longest ski-run in Europe, and Courtney was whisked away to a remote icy lake high up in the mountains, and all this topped with exhilarating cable car rides and a heart-melting chocolate fondue picnic in a gondola high-up overlooking the majestic Swiss Alps.
Ben, escorted by Lindzi and Courtney, was hosted at one of Zermatt’s most romantic and luxurious resorts: the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof. This beauty located in the heart of Zermatt was center stage of Ben’s most difficult decision of his life, who will he give the final rose to? And will he leave single or will have love in his life.

Matterhorn glacier paradise The highest altitude mountain railway station in Europe with a new restaurant in the Minergie-P standard sets standards for sustainability. The panorama: a breathtaking view of Italian, French and Swiss alpine giants from an altitude of 3,883 metres. This is your starting point for a two and a half hour hike across the glacier to climb your first 4,000 metre mountain, the Breithorn. Do you think you can see the Mediterranean? Quite possible. Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, seems near enough to touch. You are almost in Italian territory, and see the enchanting rear face of Lady Matterhorn – you certainly hadn’t expected that. The air is thin. Don't try to do anything too quickly. You are also at the peak of the international ski area. Beneath you lies the largest summer ski area in Europe and, not far away, a cool Gravity Park for snowboarders and free skiers, open 300 days a year. You can then visit the newly renovated Glacier Palace. Simply cool.
Sunnegga The paradise for families. From Zermatt, you can arrive at the Sunnegga (2,288 m. above sea level) in only 3 minutes with the underground funicular railway. From the spacious sun terrace of the restaurant, you can then enjoy a wonderful view of the Matterhorn. From here, you are also just a few minutes walk from the marmot observation post or from the crystal-clear Leisee lake. There, you will find a marvellous playground with camp fire areas. Blauherd: Would you like to get to know the marmots (woodchucks) a little better? Then take the 8-seat aerial cable car to Blauherd (2,571 m above sea level), a journey of only 5 minutes. On the marmot theme path that leads back to Sunnegga, you can learn all about the marmot and its habits. A number of different walking and hiking trails also start from the Sunnegga and Blauherd, such as the Panoramaweg, the 5-Seenweg (5 lakes path) or the Blumenweg (flower path), on which interesting information is provided on posts spaced along the trails. The new Wolli adventure playground is also located at Blauherd. Be prepared to be surprised!
Gornergrat With its sunny viewing platform that can be reached throughout the year, the Gornergrat, at an altitude of 3,089 m above sea level, has been the top tourist destination in Switzerland for the last 111 years. The panorama is considered to be one of the most beautiful: the Monte Rosa Massif with the highest Swiss mountain (the Dufourspitze at 4,634 m above sea level), and a view over the second-largest glacier in the Alps, the Gornergletscher, as well as 29 peaks higher than 4000 metres – and everything almost so close that you could almost touch them. You can climb up to the Gornergrat on the highest open-air cogwheel railway in Europe, which departs directly from the railway station in Zermatt. From here, you can climb the mountains 365 days a year with trains every 24 minutes – over impressive bridges, through galleries and tunnels, idyllic forests and alpine meadows, passing rocky gorges and mountain lakes. At your destination, you will find the highest altitude hotel in Switzerland, the 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat. Complete with restaurant, observatory and shopping mall. An overnight stay here is truly an experience.
Schwarzse The water of the Schwarzsee lake: crystal-clear and ethereally beautiful, with the "Maria zum Schnee" chapel is perfectly reflected on its surface. This marvellous lake at the foot of the Matterhorn can be reached in only 12 minutes from the Matterhorn Express valley station. Many interesting facts about the bizarre work of the glacier can be learned on interactive theme paths recounting stories about the Matterhorn as well as on the Matterhorn glacier trail. The Matterhorn Express is now extended. The non-stop gondola lift from Zermatt to the Trockener Steg is continued through Furgg to the Schwarzsee, and is therefore more comfortable.
Sommerski Enjoy 20 kilometres of piste on Zermatt's Theodul glacier. Carve and relax together with national alpine ski teams from all over Europe, with the Matterhorn always in sight. Skiing and snowboarding the whole year round, with 365 days of snow – you can only find this in Zermatt. As the highest altitude, largest and most efficiently developed snow sport location in the Alps, Zermatt offers an absolute snow guarantee. In winter, 350 km of piste attracts skiers of all levels.
Tobogganing Zermatt youths give them names such as "Dok der Bob" and "Üz the red horse". They are "hot stuff": We're talking about toboggans, whose runners throw up sparks on the local toboggan runs. The downhill toboggan journey from Rotenboden lasts between five and ten minutes – and is great fun for all ages. The trains of the Gornergrat Bahn are available to take you back up the mountain, and run about every ten minutes. Tobogganing (sledging) is also possible on other paths – but not on ski pistes. Please observe the signs, and show consideration for pedestrians and the traffic.
