In Braunwald the clock ticks somewhat differently: the din of the streets and exhaust fumes are unknown here. The car-free Glarus mountain village offers nostalgic charm, peace and quiet. Only horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians are to be found on the streets. The silence on the winter hiking trails is truly magical. The panoramic trail is a parade route. It begins at the mountain station of the Grotzenbüel gondola train and slowly and steadily ascends the Kneugrat. There are fabulous views into the depths of Bächital Valley and the grandiose panoramic vista extends to the Glarus Alps. From the Kneugrat ridge, the trail leads in about 20 minutes to the Seblengrat ridge, which is practically at the same elevation. Mountain Restaurant Seblen offers simple but lovingly prepared meals. The visitor then returns on the same route.
The hiking tour can be shortened by a chairlift ride from Grotzenbüel to the Seblengrat ridge (or vice versa). Hiking time is 1.5 hours, distance 4 kilometers.
Please note: Sturdy hiking boots are mandatory for this hike. Crampons on their shoes and ski poles are recommended for seniors. Depending on the snow conditions, this panoramic hike may only be possible with snowshoes.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
