Anyone who is familiar with the area will skip the first 800 meters of altitude difference by simply taking one of the very comfortable blue aerial cable-car oin Emmetten that drops one off at Alp Niederbauen (1570 m.a.sl.). Here, look down on to the grandiose panorama consisting of Lake Luzern, ringed by jagged peaks. Then upwards it goes: an hour's hike gets one to Niederbauen-Chulm, located at an altitude of 1923 m.a.s.l. From here the view is even better and one can easily spy the many blue bays of the lake, to the South the perfect pyramid of Mt. Bristen, to the West Mt Pilatus and in the South Mt. Rigi. If one is feeling lazy, one should return by the same route, but more ambitious hikers can hike down the South flank of the mountain. The rather steep trail leads to Seelisberg, from where one can take a train or a boat back to Luzern.

Drive or take public transportation from Luzern to Emmetten via Hergiswil then take an aerial cable-car to Alp Niederbauen.
