The famous monastery of St. John has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The church of St. John originates from 785. Its frescoes, the world's largest cycle of early medieval frescoes, date from the year 800 and are a gem of visual art from Carolingian times.
The paintings, which cover the walls of the whole nave, include a portrayal of the beheading of John the Baptist.
The church has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
