Aargauer Trail: From Aarau to Habsburg.

Secluded paths along the riverbanks contrast with centuries old small towns. The river landscape presents its romantic side and then again its natural side, and in the thermal spa its more zesty side. Towering above all this are mighty castles and palaces.

Aarau historic city centre

The first city wall dates back to the 13th century. In the 14th century the town was expanded while under Habsburg rule. Today the historic city centre presents itself as a well-preserved town centre with mostly late Gothic houses. The more than 70 richly painted eaves that adorn the historic city centre are a special feature. It is to these that Aarau owes its nickname "town of beautiful gables".

Well worth a visit are such historic buildings as the Obertorturm (Upper Gate Tower), the Obertor (Upper Gate), the 15th-century Stadtkirche, the Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen (Fountain of Justice) and the Landjägerwache.

Restaurant Mürset

The restaurant is divided into the Alte Stube, the Brasserie and the Weinstube. In the Brasserie you can enjoy authentic French bistro cuisine, the motto here being "savoir vivre". In the Alte Stube, the stylish classic, we serve calf's liver with rösti (hash browns) and a delectable chateaubriand. In the Weinstube (wine bar), where beautiful moments meet, you’ll find enjoyment and ambience in equal measure.
