Funeral chapel of the Aarau Rose Garden Cemetery

The listed funeral chapel (created in 1968 by Barth & Zaugg Architects) is an important witness to the architecture of the Jurasüdfuss (southern foothills of the Jura chain). Rehabilitated in 2008 by the Aarau office of Husistein & Partner AG, this work illustrates in an exemplary manner how listed buildings have been dealt with in the recent past. Spatially proportional additions in the interior allow for contemporary and interdenominational rites.

Government and cantonal parliament building

The central section of the government building was built in 1739. After the canton was founded (1803), the government purchased the house and had it renovated to become this classical government building complete with lavish staircase. Behind it is the cantonal parliament building. With its theatrical semicircle, this house represents a key work of bourgeois classicism in Aargau.
