In 1707 the imperial envoy, Count Trautmannsdorf, presented the city with this baroque sandstone statue of St. John of Nepomuk (1350-1393), patron saint of waters, who according to tradition refused to break the seal of confession and was therefore tortured and thrown into the Vltava. The sculpture's original, the creator of which remains unknown, is at the Baden Historical Museum. The copy was made in 1974 by the sculptor Romano Galizia.
