While the original hotel built in 1906 above th e Massa Gorge was quite simple, it was turned into a rather luxurious property over the years, sporting such amenities as a library, tennis courses, and a table d'hôte. Today, this hotel has managed to save the lovely amenities of times gone by without the fussiness that may have been emblematic of the period. And what definitely has not changed are the views. The hotel is perched on a ledge just above the Aletsch Glacier, with views encompassing the gnarly old Aletsch Forests, and the highest Valais peaks, ranging from the Mischabel Group to the Matterhorn. Good thing this hotel offers every comfort, enticing one to stay another night!
How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation from Brig to Blatten, to Blatten-Belalp by aerial cable-car, about 30 min. hike from the mountain station.

The British mountaineers of the 19th century knew what they wanted: comfort and a good view. And that is indeed, what they got.
