And indeed, they are not exaggerating. Of course, it may also have to do with staying at the cozy Kulm Hotel Gornergrat, located at a breath-taking 3100 m.a.s.l. Get to the hotel built of solid stone with Swiss pine interiors by taking the Gornergrat Train.
The views from the rooms feel as if you could reach out and grab the Matterhorn, the mountain of all mountains. It is also well visible from the terrace that is a popular spot for day excursionists. Once the last train has departed, it is silent and one can enjoy an intimate tete-a-tete with the most impressive mountains around: the Gorner Glacier, the Monte Rosa, Castor and Pollux, and of course, the Matterhorn. After dinner, sit out on the terrace, now empty of noisy crowds and bask in the starlight that is much more intense than below where there is much more light pollution. What a life!
Attention: persons with heart and circulation problems, as well babies and small children will experience problems due to the extreme altitude.
