Gstaad

The weather is a favorite topic everywhere in the world and TV programs focusing on the weather have enviable audience ratings. Despite this general interest, the fewest really know how weather actually happens.
The Meteorological Didactic Trail on Mt. Wispile just above Gstaad will help clarify quite a few things. As one walks along the 5-kilometer-trail, signs identify various meteorological phenomena. The trail ends at 1911 m.a.s.l. by the mountain station of the aerial cable car back to Gstaad.
The signs inform hikers about the types of clouds, how weather interruptions and thunderstorms happen, about erosion, how water circulates, and about mountain and valley winds. The backdrop, made up of the mountain chain from the Wildhorn to the Oldenhorn, is quite illustrative since one can see various types of clouds, erosion and gliders which peruse the valley winds to be carried along.

How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation to Gstaad, either via Thun and Spiez or via Montreux. From Gstaad to Wispile by aerial cable-car.
