If you are looking for crystals you will find the Grimsel Region one of Switzerland's most abundant areas. But very often these glittering treasure troves, special crevasses where crystals seem to grrow out of the mountain, are somewhat hard to find and are quite challenging to reach. This is why the Didactic Crystal Hiking Trail is so much fun for children: some of these crevasses have been opened and made more accessible so that children may enjoy learning about these wonderful natural phenomena. The trail runs from the Grimsel Hospiz (1980 m) to the Hotel Handeck ( 1378 m). Informative signs explain in lay terms how crystals grow, and for extra amusement there are marble runs, lots of adventure stations, a dedicated place for grilling, and at the end of the trail, a playground wedged between a biotope and an alpine dairy farm.
