A marvelous chestnut forest, indeed a nationally known park with giant trees, takes root on the softly inclined terrace of Brentan above Castasegna. With their crowns closely intertwined, the trees are akin to columns holding up the arched roof of a magnificent dome. Hiking in this setting is good for the soul and highly educational as well. Five signposts (1 h) tell all about the sweet chestnut, a typical product of the Bergell valley. The trail is particularly attractive when the chestnuts are ripe.
