It was founded in 1170 by the Zähringer dynasty, and throughout the Old Town you can see traces of its long and rich history. With its picturesque alleyways and arcades of houses adorned with flowers, it's a lovely place to linger in and explore.

On the way call in at the Papiliorama Swiss Tropical Gardens in Kerzers, a fascinating collection of exotic butterflies, tropical birds and many other animals.
Mont Vully
Switzerland's smallest winegrowing area can easily be reached by boat from Murten. Paths and theme trails lead up through the vineyards, and welcoming cellars along the way offer the chance to taste some of the wines.
