Intro

On the third day of the Trans-Altarezia, the Bocchetta di Forcola, the ultimate part of the route, is coming up – an unparalleled barrage of high mountain trails.

Description

The day starts with a hefty challenge. The ascent to the Umbrail Pass is energy-sapping, a total of more than 1100 meters in altitude – but, never fear, a postbus with a bike carrier is available on this section. The comfortable ride should be given serious consideration, especially since you’re not done with the uphill part at the top of the Umbrail Pass. To get to Bocchetta di Forcola it takes almost another 300 meters in height and then 100 meters more until the long downhill ride finally begins at Bocchetta di Pedenolo. At first it is a convenient cart path, but it turns into a trail passing through an incredibly steep and rocky area. The path was built in World War I by Italian soldiers and today it forms the basis for a fantastic downhill ride. It runs deep into Valle Forcola and on the last section you follow a small gravelly road and finally reach Lago di Cancano.

After some refreshments in one of the mountain inns, you coast down the road for a short distance in the direction of Valdidentro, but at the second hairpin on the right you turn onto a gravel road and the next highlight is about to begin. This road is flat as a pancake for several kilometres, high above Valdidentro –an unexpected and unusual fun ride. The section ends near the road leading from Bormio to Livigno. Arnoga is the name of the village and a pleasant place to spend the night.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
