The convention centre of tomorrow.
The new SwissTech Convention Center (STCC), situated on the campus of EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), opened in April 2014. It is the only international convention centre located on a large scientific campus, and so offers exciting new options for a wide variety of events.

At the heart of the futuristic complex is a 3,000-seat amphitheatre that is fully modular and can be converted quickly and easily. Thanks to the Canadian “Gala Systems” technology, seats can be folded underfloor at the push of a button; walls and floors are also movable, so that in just 15 minutes a 2,135-seater hall can be transformed into an exhibition or banquet area (flat configuration).

The equipment allows the Conference Center to configure halls with capacities of 330, 468, 1,670, 2,135 or 3,000 seats. The SwissTech Convention Center is the largest multifunctional centre in the world to use this technology; only eleven other conference facilities on the planet are so equipped.

The STCC is also a pioneer in sustainability. Integrated in the translucent west façade are 300 square metres of dye photovoltaic cells, which were invented at EPFL. This is the first such application on a public building, and aims to demonstrate the potential of this pioneering technology. In addition to generating electricity from a renewable source, the solar cells protect the building from direct sunlight and thus reduce the necessity for using cooling energy.
