Axalp
Hint
Intro
Axalp is a clearing at 1535 metres altitude above the resort of Brienz. It can be reached by post bus or car in 35 minutes from the village. Axalp is ideally located for hiking in summer and skiing in winter.
Winter
In the winter months, Axalp is a small but perfectly formed winter sports resort. The ski lifts are run by the Axalp Windegg AG. There is a chair lift (Windegg) and three tow lifts (Tschingel, Hüttboden and Dotzweg). Axalp is a family-friendly resort, with the “Axiland” ski area that caters for the youngest skiers. Two children’s tow lifts can be used free of charge. The nursery slope is geared towards teaching children to ski in a fun ambiance. Sledging, snow fun and seating for parents and onlookers rounds off the attraction.
Axalp also offers signposted snow shoe paths and groomed cross-country skiing trails. Enjoy an enchanted winter break off the beaten track.

Summer
There are many hiking and mountain trails to explore in summer. A highly unusual hiking path ist he Woodcarving Path. He leads from Axalp to the tiny, tucked-away lake of Hinterburgseeli. The path is lined with many figures hewn from tree trunks by Brienz woodcarvers. A hike through the wild and romantic Giessbach Valley is a unique experience. Explore the valley of the famous Giessbach Falls.
An attraction of an entirely different kind is the Swiss Air Force’s annual fighter jet target practice, held in the mountains above Ax-alp.
