Feast of traditions - Aletsch Arena - Nostalgic culinary tour
Hikers can delve into the past by taking this tour that combines gastronomy with nostalgia, starting from the Fiescheralp* and passing over the Bettmeralp to finish on the Riederalp. They will make the acquaintance of the Rollibock (a legendary horned ibex) and his sagas about the Aletsch Glacier; they can try their hand at the traditional game of “Gilihüsine“, the Alpine predecessor of Hornussen (another Swiss sport resembling rounders); they can see how full-flavoured Alpine milk is processed to make butter and how cheese is prepared; they can savour age-old dishes such as Brochota, Ratsherrensuppa (soup) and Cholera (pie), and at the end of the tour they can receive the Alpine benediction. The musical backdrop for the traditional celebration is provided by alpenhorns, Swiss accordions and other typical instruments.
