The Cluniac Priory founded around 1100 was turned into a hotel 200 years ago.Jean-Jacques Rousseau's sojourn on the island in 1765 later turned out to have been a formative time both for him and his hosts.
Indeed, the island's many sagas and legends to say nothing of its unique flora and fauna – now under protection – are an experience that would be hard to top.
The hotel can be reached only on foot on by bike via the Heidenweg or by boat from the lake, meaning that your holiday will in fact begin in Erlach or Bienne.
