Every year on the Saturday before the first Advent Sunday, St. Nicholas wearing a magnificent crown arrives in the charming village of Kägiswil near Sarnen. The crown represents the seven parish churches of the Canton Obwalden and their coats of arms.

The children of Kägiswil carrying home-made headgear and hundreds of bell bearers from all over central Switzerland will be there as every year to honor the arrival of St. Nicholas.

As the somber sound of the cow bells fills the streets of the village many a spectator watching the procession will feel butterflies in the stomach. Kids will snuggle up close to their parents and stare wide-eyed at the parade of solemn men carrying heavy bells, cigar gripped in the corner of their mouth.

The parade starts at 7 p.m.
