Heida wine village: Europe's highest vineyard
Valais is wine-growing country - and as home to the highest vineyard in Europe at a height of 1,150 metres above sea level, Visperterminen has acquired worldwide fame. In short terraces with high dry stone walls, the vineyard prevails over the narrowest spaces covering an altitude difference of 500 metres. The "Heida" wine, also known as the "pearl of alpine wines" is the trademark of Visperterminen. Those with a real interest in wine making can visit a wine cellar to discover the fine vintages or take a walk along the informative vineyard trail. The annual "Wii-Grill-Fäscht" offers a particularly impressive wine experience, a culinary tour through the vineyard on the first Saturday in September.
