A milestone on the Männlichen was the construction of the aerial cable car from Wengen in 1954. A few inhabitants of Wengen who were concerned about the future of their resort conceived the idea of constructing a cable car. The first cabins had room for 40 persons. In 1963 cabins with a capacity of 50 replaced them. Since August 26, 1992 two spacious 80-seater cabins have been running between Wengen and the Männlichen. They climb 930 meters from the sunny terrace of Wengen (1300m) to the valley station of the Männlichen (2222m) in only five minutes.
On December 23, 1978, the gondola-train Grindelwald Grund) – Männlichen was inaugurated. At six kilometers (in two sections) it was and still is the world’s longest cable car.
