Here not only the Upper and Lower Grindelwald Glacier come into view, but also four-thousand-meter peaks such as the Finsteraar, Schreckhorn, Lauteraar and Fiescherhorn.
Centerpiece of the Firstbahn is the six-seat gondola train, which rides from Grindelwald via Bort and Schreckfeld to First Mountain. During the 17-minute 5,226-meter ride the train climbs 1100 meters. The new gondola train (which used to be a historic chair lift and has been remodeled) started operating in 1991 and today can transport about 1200 persons per hour. If you sit with your back to the direction the train is travelling in, you will enjoy the best view.
Three aerial cable cars and two ski lifts are also part of the enterprise. In winter the First offers 120 kilometers of ski runs, and in the summer over 100 kilometers of hiking trails are at your disposal.
Rushing through the air with the First Flyer
It gives four persons the opportunity to simultaneously and independently of each other glide along a cable through the air, for a distance of about 800 meters, at speeds of up to 84 kilometers/hour. Guests sit in a special seat that resembles a paraglider’s harness. The flyer, which is used by all age groups, is suitable for operation both in winter and in summer.
