The museum holds the world's largest collection of works by the Holbein family. The Renaissance collection includes works by Witz and Cranach the Elder, Grünewald. Highlights of the 19th century are represented by paintings by Böcklin, van Gogh, Gauguin and Cézanne. The 20th century collection focuses on Cubism (Picasso, Braque, Léger), German Expressionism and American art since 1950.
