O vilarejo é caracterizado por seu imponente monastério e por sua igreja colegiada. Existem ainda cerca de 30 monges que atualmente vivem e trabalham aqui. A Montanha dos Anjos, como os fundadores do mosteiro beneditino chamavam o local em 1120, é um popular destino de excursões para quem viaja nas proximidades de Lucerna: a viagem a Engelberg, por estrada ou pela estreita ferrovia, pode ser feita em apenas uma hora. O parque glaciar de Titlis e as telecadeiras "Ice Flyer" são o paraíso para quem gosta de deslizar monte abaixo. Uma gruta glaciar de gelo eterno, a ponte suspensa mais alta da Europa e vários trajetos para caminhadas são alguns dos atrativos do Titlis.
Titlis é o destino mais elevado de excursão a geleiras, e o maior paraíso de esqui e snowboard da Suíça Central. Titlis bem como seu parque de geleiras, são acessíveis a partir do bondinho giratório Rotair. A uma altitude de 3.020 metros acima do nível do mar, os visitantes podem se deleitar com a vista fantástica dos Alpes centrais.

Engelberg Energy TownEngelberg has called itself an energy town since 2011 and has covered its own electricity requirements with 100% renewable electricity since 2022 and with an additional 50% green electricity from 2030. Engelberg is continuously committed to the efficient use of energy, climate protection, renewable energies and environmentally friendly mobility. In the village and on the mountain, a lot of emphasis is placed on sustainability. Flagship businesses have been certified with the Swisstainable label. All mountain railways in Engelberg are operated with environmentally friendly hydroelectric power. The Brunni cable cars, for example, have been a climate-neutral mountain railway company since 2018. The transport systems there have been running on 100% electricity from Co2-free hydropower since 2013. Many restaurants and shops in Engelberg offer local specialities and thus attach great importance to sustainable and regional products.
