The highest mountain station in the Alps is reached onboard the Matterhorn Express. This takes guests to the Furi station. From there, a large gondola takes you as far as the Trockenen Steg and the final stage of your journey is completed by aerial cableway to the Klein Matterhorn station, built into the mountainside.
A peak of superlatives awaits visitors here. It has been completely redesigned in the last few years: the restaurant with a shop and accommodation for mountain climbers that meets Minergie-P standard is a model of sustainability. This impressive building won the Swiss and European Solar Prize in 2010. Europe’s highest lying conference room is in this building. The room seats up to 70 participants, who get to enjoy a unique meeting. The building also houses the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise Lodge, where visitors can stay overnight at an elevation of 4,000 meters.
The summit cable car takes visitors directly from the station to the viewing platform. In addition, a panoramic window with a view of the Breithorn was hewn into the rock, in the middle of the mountain. One can observe the mountain climbers, the circling of the jackdaws and the flanks of the Theodul Glacier from the window.
The world’s highest glacier palace has been renovated and now impresses visitors with its magnificent new design and glamour. Visitors use passenger elevators, so that they can enter the palace without getting their feet wet. There the wonder of a glacier world awaits the visitors: beautiful ice formations, glittering ice crystals, impressive ice sculptures, a glacier crevasse that you can walk through and a fast-paced ice slide.
