Lausanne ostenta o menor metrô automático do mundo. A nova linha de 6 km liga o píer de Ouchy através da Estação Ferroviária de Lausanne e do centro histórico com o distrito de Croisette. Aproximadamente metade do percurso é subterrâneo.

From 1877/79 two funicular railways ran from Lake Geneva to Flon (La Ficelle = the base), the railway was reconstructed to cog railway in 1958/59 - and since 2008 the M2 newly travels to the Croisettes part of town on solid rubber wheels – pretty much the same way as the Métro in Paris br.< />
Auto-controlled, the Métro runs fully automatically – half of its journey underground. During peak hours you can catch a train every 3 minutes in either direction.
