Free bread rolls for Lenin
Lenin often visited the Sonnengarten of the Hotel Sonne with his wife who suffered from tuberculosis. His wife always needed a lot of time to artfully drape all of her black skirts around her. Both used to order an ample breakfast. After eating everything down to the last crumb, Lenin would go to the host and ask for another bread roll, because he was still hungry. He never paid for the bread.
The Sonne was one of the first restaurants to obtain tavern rights in Switzerland. The tower is thought to date from the 14th century. The former tavern was mentioned for the first time in a document in 1641. A beautiful ballroom was added in 1839, and remains preserved until today. Celebrities such as Carl Jung, Thomas Mann, Franz Kafka and Lenin count amongst the Sonne's guests.
为传统瑞士酒店爱好者There can be no denying a history dating back 370 years! Those who saunter through the Hotel Sonne will find evidence of the past everywhere they go – often intriguingly combined with modern elements. With 70 original works of art by artists such as Andy Warhol and Augusto Giacometti decorating the ancient walls, it is also rather like being in a museum.
On fine summer days, however, guests are more likely to want to gather in the self-service restaurant under the shady plane trees in the garden.
