There are 15,000 ibex living in Switzerland - and this does not go without saying, because in the canton of Graubünden, where the coat of arms has shown an ibex since 1457, they had been hunted to extinction even by the 17th century. Then between 1920 and 1934 the ibex was reintroduced to the National Park and all the ibex now living in Switzerland are descendants of those animals.
