Intro

A historic hotel set amid the mountains. Eight cosy and simple rooms, with accommodation for a further 55 guests in the annexe. Guests are served seasonal products from the region and the finest Appenzell delicacies. This family-managed mountain hotel can only be reached on foot, and is ideal for hikers, mountaineers and bikers. The Alpine herdsmen and dairymen make an impressive spectacle as they go about their work on the meadows surrounding the hotel during summer – a chance to experience traditional agriculture in a totally natural setting.

Description

The legendary Sennendörflein Meglisalp is located in Alpstein on a plateau below the Appenzeller Mountain "Santis" and over the bead "Seealpsee". The Meglisalp, 1,517 meters above sea level is only accessible on foot. From all directions a good mountain hiking trails lead into the heart of Alpsteins - the Meglisalp. For example, hikers reach Wasserauen easily in 2.5 hours on the trail of the legendary Santis carrier and Hemmer (via Schrennenweg) the mountain inn. Continue on a 3-hour hike to the Santis. The mountain Meglisalp can accommodate around 140 walkers in double, single and family rooms of different sizes and dormitories. Guests are pampered with home-style cooking and Appenzell specialties from local products as possible. An international wine list round out the offerings.

Typically Swiss Hotel

An authentic mountain hostelry dating from 1897 in the heart of the Alpstein mountain chain, which can only be reached on foot. An impressive backdrop is provided by the legendary hamlet of Meglisalp, populated by Alpine herdsmen and dairymen, with the mountain chapel in front of the Altmann peak. The cuisine features products harvested directly from the surrounding meadows. A rustic room with accommodation for groups is available in the "Mölschter", as the former stable is known. This inn has been owned by the same family for five generations.

Cancellations are accepted up to 72 hours before the arrival date and exclusively by telephone, at no cost to you, accepted. For cancellations received during the 48 to 24 hours overnight stay and breakfast with 50% can be applied shorter-term cancellations or even unexcused absences are accommodation, breakfast and pre-ordered dinner, but at least the 3-course half board menu, billed at 100%.

Getting there

By car: From the motorway exit St. Gallen or Gossau/Winkeln in the direction of Appenzell. From there to Weissbadstrasse and Wasserauen (parking). Wasserauen is the starting point of the foot path to Meglisalp, 1520 m above sea level (2 hours walking time, mountain bikes are not allowed). By train: from St. Gallen or Gossau with the Appenzell Railways to Wasserauen. Walking: on a model developed mountain trails, in about two hours from Wasserauen. Various other, more or less long march routes are possible, for example, from her Säntisgipfel.
