Every Easter Monday, children and adults convene at Rüdenplatz to take part in the traditional “Zwänzgerle” event. This typical Zurich Easter custom is a variant of the popular “egg tapping”. Children hold up hard-boiled eggs and the adults, who are standing opposite them, throw a “‘Zwänzgerli” (a small coin worth 20 cents) at the eggs. If the coin penetrates the shell and sticks in the egg, that person has won and can eat the egg. If they fail, the child can keep the coin.
