Intro

The Muggio Valley is the southernmost valley in Switzerland and comprises nine rustic villages. A pristine valley recognised as Switzerland’s most beautiful landscape by the foundation for landscape conservation in 2014.

Description

The ethnographic museum of the Muggio Valley (Museo Ethnografico della Valle di Muggio, MEVM) has a wealth of hereditary objects of great cultural interest: the Bruzella mill, the snow cellars of Monte Generoso - that served as storage places for dairy products - and the roccolo of Scudellate - a brick tower for bird hunting - which have all been restored. The valley is particularly dependent on agriculture and local products. Chestnut flour and polenta are made at the Bruzella mill - and fresh cheese, butter and cream stem from local milk deliveries.

The work of the MEVM has successfully preserved the typical characteristics of the valley: Peace and beauty in a still largely unspoilt countryside in direct contact with nature. Of particular interest to keen walkers are the flora and fauna - with the vegetation consisting mainly of pastures and forests that are located at heights between 300 to 1700 meters. The historic buildings located on the hiking trail bring back the past and are of course open to tourists.
