Intro

The Alpine Panorama Route crosses the northern Alpine foreland with its many passes and gorges, tradition-rich culture, settlements and mountain farms. The strenuous, stamina-testing trip is rewarded with spectacular views.

Closure, Axenstrasse

Since summer 2023, bicycles and motorised bicycles have been banned on the Axenstrasse between Brunnen and Sisikon. Instead, a free shuttle bus is offered for people with bicycles, motorised bicycles and similar vehicles. For more information, click on the link or the PDF. A reduced winter timetable is currently in operation. The section between Brunnen and Flüelen is best travelled by train or boat.

Further information

Description

This is anything but a stroll. In return the Alpine panorama route offers magnificent views and leads along trails with plenty of passes and gorges which are also ideal for road cyclists, through the northern foothills of the Alps with its traditional cultures, settlements and Alpine farms. Highlights along the tough route through the typical image of Switzerland are the historic small towns of Thun and Fribourg, the two key points of a particularly attractive stage. The rapid descent from a height of over 1,000 metres to the finish in Aigle provides a spectacular finale.
