Decorating bell straps has been a tradition for many centuries in Switzerland. The only person in the region who is still practicing the craft is Beat Mathis in Wolfenschiessen. In a seminar, he teaches the guests to enhance the bell straps with embroideries or wood carvings, to paint or engrave them.
