A hot air balloon flight from Château-d’Oex allows passengers to experience the panorama of the Swiss Alps at first hand from the sky.
There are very few more spectacular backdrops for a balloon flight than the region around Château-d’Oex. Once in the air, guests encounter a unique mountain panorama. Mont Blanc, the triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the Grand Combin, the Matterhorn and the Jura chain can all be seen from the sky above.
Guests start their unforgettable adventure early in the morning at the entrance to the village of Château-d’Oex. As soon as the balloon has been inflated, it gently floats skywards like a bubble. And once the balloon has gained some height, those on board are soon treated to a grand spectacle: admiring spectacular 360° panoramic views in absolute peace and quiet as they float over the mountain landscape. After coming back down to earth, they help the pilot to fold up the colourful balloon. To top it all off, they each receive a flight certificate and are offered a glass of white wine from the region.
Thanks to its favourable microclimate, Château-d’Oex has developed into a centre for hot-air ballooning, where passenger flights are offered all year round. The “Festival international de Ballons” – or International Hot Air Balloon Festival – is now known the world over. For 40 years, around 70 pilots from all over the world have been gathering in January each year to compete with one another in clear skies.
