Forest bathing
Overview
Intro
The act of mindfully spending time in the forest, known as forest bathing, has a calming and restorative effect on body and soul. Explore Baden's forest with all of your senses on a magical guided walk and you'll instantly feel a boost to your personal sense of well-being.
“Shinrin-yoku” is a Japanese word that means “taking in the forest atmosphere” or “forest bathing”. Forest bathing has been part of holistic preventive healthcare in Japan since 1980. It has been scientifically proven that spending time in a forest has a significant positive effect on the human immune system and relieves symptoms of stress and burnout. Baden's spa doctors had noticed this as early as the start of the 19th century, and prescribed “Terrainkuren” (walking cures) to visitors to their sanatoriums at the time. In 1837, Baldegg was built specifically as a final destination for these walks through the forest.
The “forest bathing” guided walk takes visitors on an unusual and inspiring encounter with Baden's forest. On this walk through the forest, you'll discover just how soothing, vitalising – and yet also peaceful – the effect the forest can have on your well-being when experienced with all of your senses.
When forest bathing, you open and stimulate all five of your senses – sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. On a sensory discovery tour off the beaten track, all of your senses are immersed in a whole host of smells, noises, textures and images.
