The mighty and imposing Sissacher Fluh is the emblem of Sissach, dominating the valley below. The view from the rocky summit is magnificent, extending from the Vosges and the Jura right to the Alps.
There are similarly impressive views from the 30-metre high observation tower on the Schleifenberg. Between these two viewpoints, the trail passes through beautiful deciduous forests. Holly trees line the route, forming something akin to a tunnel in places. The trail finishes in Liestal, the canton capital. A visit to the old town with its many sights is the perfect way to end this interesting hike.
Sissach - Sissacher Fluh - Wintersinger Höhe - Hersberg - Stächpalmenhegli - Schleifenberg - Liestal
The trail starts with an ascent of nearly 400 metres from Sissach railway station to Sissacher Fluh. A wonderful panorama trail with a series of ascents and descents then leads across to the Schleifenberg. The descent to Liestal which follows is steep and quite tricky. The trail ends with a meander through the picturesque old town to reach the railway station in Liestal.
